Are you looking for an easy and delicious recipe to whip up this Valentines season? Well, look no further! Nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like Red Velvet Cake Balls.

Cake balls were actually one of the first things that I started to bake on my own, when I was in middle school. It is one of those recipes that brings back so many happy memories for me and fills my heart with so much joy. Cake balls are the perfect bite-sized dessert. Made by condensing moist cake and coating it with creamy chocolate, it is sure to please any crowd you are serving.
The key to making these perfect little balls of joy? There is NO frosting in the mix! That’s right… who needs to deal with sticky frosting fingers when trying to roll the interior dough, when you can just deal with the moist cake? While this does eliminate a little of the “extra flavors” that frosting can add. It keeps the interior moist and makes the baking process fly by with a fraction of the clean-up – wins all around!
In addition to being super easy, another thing that I love about this recipe is that cake balls are incredibly versatile. You can use almost any cake flavor, from classic vanilla and chocolate to red velvet or lemon, and pair it with matching or contrasting chocolate to suit any theme. Some fun flavor combinations that I love are:
1. Red Velvet + White Chocolate Coating (As pictured here)
2. Red Velvet + Chocolate Coating Chocolate Cake + Dark Chocolate Coating
3. Chocolate Cake + Dark Chocolate Coating
4. Vanilla Cake + Milk Chocolate Coating
5. Funfetti Cake + White Chocolate Coating
6. Lemon Cake + White Chocolate Coating
7. Carrot Cake + White Chocolate Coating
These Red Velvet Cake Balls are perfect for Valentine’s Day parties, dessert tables, or homemade gifts. Whether you keep them simple or go all out with decorations, cake balls are a dessert that never goes out of style. Their rich texture, customizable flavors, and charming presentation make them a go-to treat for any occasion. Once you make them, they’re sure to become a staple in your dessert rotation.

HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE:
The full recipe is below. However, lets walk through the steps to ensure that you get the perfect outcome every single time.
- We will start by preparing our kitchen – gathering supplies, measuring ingredients, and preheating the oven to 350° F.
- Mix cake ingredients together and bake according to the package.
- Once cake is baked, add it to a standard mixer (I prefer to do this when it is still hot to really capture the moisture) and mix using a paddle attachment.
- Continue mixing until a creamy dough forms.
- Once the dough is set, use a 1 Tablespoon cookie scoop and carefully scoop dough then roll each scoop into balls.
- Once all of the balls are formed, place tray in the fridge for 15 minutes to allow the balls to harden slightly before dipping in melted chocolate.
- After about 15 minutes, melt chocolate according to package instructions.
- Remove balls from the fridge and carefully dip each ball into the chocolate and evenly coat, wiping away excess chocolate.
- Once balls are coated, carefully sprinkle sprinkles on top for a little extra flare.
- Serve & enjoy!
